Community Charter (Province of BC)
This is the main page for materials to help local governments in British Columbia implement the provisions of the Community Charter. The legislation was given Royal Assent on May 29, 2003 and came into force on January 1, 2004.

Local Government Department - Improvement districts are local authorities responsible for providing local services for the benefit of the residents in a community. They vary considerably in size from small subdivisions to larger communities and are usually located in rural areas of the province.

The Improvement District Manual (2.1 MB) has been prepared by the Ministry as a guide for improvement district trustees and staff on matters of policy, governance, finance and planning and engineering.

Vancouver Island Health Authority The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) provides health care to people on Vancouver Island, on the islands of the Georgia Strait, and in the mainland communities between Powell River and Rivers Inlet.

Outdoor work and activities are regulated according to forest fire danger ratings.

Coastal Fire Centre The Danger Class values presented on this site are directly applicable only to the geographic area of the source weather station. Those persons carrying out industrial activities who want to apply the Danger Class information from this web site must determine that the weather station is representative of their operational area. For Mayne Island - The Fire Chief refers to three local stations (Saltspring 2), (Saturna EC), (Victoria AP EC) to determine the Fire Danger Class for our area.

Lieutenant Governor The post of Lieutenant Governor was established by the British North America Act in March 1867.
